Event Details

Louise, an elderly woman, spends her summers in the seaside town of Billigen. When the last train of the season leaves without her, she realizes that she must survive the winter alone. As the tides rise it becomes clear that no one is looking for her, and Louise must adapt not only to the conditions, but also to the solitude. She sets up camp on the shore and finds the companion of an old dog, also forgotten. With beautiful pastel imagery, acclaimed director Jean-Francois Laguionie (who won the Ottawa 78 Grand Prize for his short film, La traversée de l'Atlantique à la rame) weaves together the moving story of how being left behind forces us to confront the things and people we have left behind as well. Louise en Hiver is a poetic and heartwarming examination of the dangers of forgetting.
