Luchezar Avramov, 2019 | 110 minutes

Years after meeting in Canada as immigrants, married couple Gerogi and Yuki are trying to have a child, hoping it will bring them closer together. Their only chance is an in-vitro procedure and, after some unsuccessful attempts, they decide to travel to Gerogi’s homeland of Bulgaria to try again. While driving in the countryside after the first medical tests, the couple get into an accident that involves a Romani child, who later dies. This tragic event shakes the couple, and when the death is blamed on someone else the overwhelming guilt threatens to fracture Georgi and Yuki, as individuals and as a couple. With its thoughtful visual storytelling, as A PICTURE WITH YUKI unfolds it invites a questioning of morals, privilege, prejudice, and whether or not being good has anything to do with what you get.

Presented with English subtitles.
